Patience

Patience is one of the dispositions that I struggle with as a counselor in training. My encouraging demeanor wants the best for my clients and sometimes I can feel myself wanting to move my clients forward when they may not be ready. Fortunately, my clients have shared their thoughts and that has helped me take a step back and work on new interventions to meet them where they are. I've learned that silence holds space and is an important element to the therapeutic process.

I work on being a reflection of my clients so when they need that extra space and time, I work to match that. It's been an area of growth for me and continues to be a disposition that I need to work on to elevate my counseling skills. Mindfulness interventions are helpful as they allow the client and myself to focus on one step at a time in the counseling journey.
