Cultural Diversity
Understanding and accepting a client's cultural diversity is an essential element to building therapeutic rapport and creating a successful treatment plan. I've implemented the discussion
of culture into my sessions starting with the first
appointment. I make an effort to explore and gather all
elements that a client feels is important to their past
experiences and presenting problems.
In addition, I continue to ask about culture during sessions
when appropriate to see how it correlates and if it needs
to be addressed for what the client is working on.
Finally, I conduct research to learn about my client's
culture so I can have a better understanding of where
they are coming from. This allows me to customize
treatment plans to meet the client's unique needs.
